San Juan Capistrano Dentist Receives AGD Mastership Award
San Juan Capistrano (July 22, 2014)—The Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) is pleased to announce that Nicholas Shubin DDS, MAGD, DABOI, DICOI, of San Juan Capistrano, CA, received the association’s Mastership Award during the AGD 2014 Annual Meeting & Exhibits, which took place June 26 to 29 in Detroit.
The Mastership Award is the AGD’s highest honor and one of the most respected designations within the profession. To earn this award, Dr. Shubin completed 1,100 hours of continuing dental education.
As a Mastership Award recipient, Dr. Shubin joins more than 2,300 active AGD Masters who have achieved this Award since the founding of the AGD in 1952. AGD Masters have gone above and beyond the basic requirements to care for their patients’ oral health.
“This award requires an extraordinary amount of time and effort,” says AGD President W. Carter Brown, DMD, FAGD. “Dr. Shubin should be commended for his unflagging commitment to continuing education, which allows him to provide the best possible dental care and oral health education to his patients.”
Dr. Shubin graduated from UCLA Dental School in 1985 and currently practices dentistry in San Juan Capistrano.

Dr. Nicholas Shubin qualified and received the Academy of General Dentistry’s prestigious Mastership award in Detroit at the AGD’s Annual Meeting. He successfully completed a rigorous curriculum outlined by the national Academy.
Mastership is the highest award available in the AGD. It is one of the most respected and recognizable desig- nations in the dental profession. Less than one percent of the general practitioner population in the United States and have achieved this lofty goal. California has 174 actively practicing Masters out of a population of over 21,500 general dentists.
To achieve Mastership, a dentist must complete a minimum of 1,100 hours of approved continuing dental education. Most who have reached this level of continuing education have many, many more hours than the previously stated minimum number.
At least 400 hours must be accrued in participation, hands-on courses in sixteen different subject codes.Students are involved in demonstration of a particular skill or technique under the direct supervision of highly skilled experts.
